Who is the maker?

Michelle Cox is passionate about living an unconventional life and encouraging others to embrace imperfection more, in 2019 Michelle founded a new company The Wabi Sabi Series. It includes a podcast and book series of short, impactful books centring around topics we don't often talk about. Taking her ‘corporate turned creative’ venture further, the past year has seen Michelle transform what started as a ceramics hobby into a successful new business making tableware for clients. Expanding on this in November 2020, she opened Sydney’s newest Makers Studio & Retail store, Atelier 9 - Avalon, with the purpose of connecting community through creative endeavours.

From far-flung places to far-flung pots, Michelle creates ceramics to love, cherish and enjoy every day. Using a combination of wheel-thrown and hand-building techniques, her pieces bring beauty + joy into everyday life

How do I care for my ceramics?

All pieces are food-safe as well as oven and dishwasher safe. However we do recommend hand washing wares in warm soapy water to ensure longevity. Extreme and sudden changes in temperature should be avoided, and as with all ceramics – breakages can occur if dropped or knocked together.

Are they dishwasher, microwave or oven safe?

Absolutely, most of our pieces are microwave, oven & dishwasher safe.

Is local pick up available?

Sure from our Studio + Showroom : Atelier 9 Avalon,
Shop 2, 9 Careel Head Rd, Avalon NSW 2107

Contact me for studio open hours to arrange.

Do you ship within Australia?

Absolutely! My pieces are flung far & wide this big land of ours! Once you place your order, I will confirm shipping costs and details.  Or drop me a line to get a quote in advance.

How long does it take to receive my order?

It depends!  If the items are already made and on our studio shelves, we ship items as soon as possible, usually within 2 business days, however during busier periods, we may take up to 4 business days to dispatch your order. The arrival of your parcel will depend on where it is being sent. For parcels within Australia it is generally 2-8 business days after our courier picks up your item. Local pick up from the studio is also an option.

Will my piece look like the example?
I try to provide photographs that are as true to the look/feel of the piece as possible but being made by hand, every piece is unique. Some designs are more consistent than others and I also sell one-off, limited edition pieces where two will never be the same.

I’m unsure on clay and colour choice.  Can I contact someone for advice?

Easy - drop us an email and we can guide you.  Or if you’re in Sydney, pop in to our studio to see some pieces in real life.

My order is a gift.  Do you provide wrapping?

Absolutely! Leave a note with your order or fling us an email and we can organise for you for a small additional charge.

My order arrived broken.  What do I do?

Don’t worry, we will replace any broken or faulty item/s that have been damaged during transit.

You need to let us know as soon as possible though. Please email us with your order number and a photo of the damaged goods within seven 48hours to arrange a replacement piece or a credit voucher.

Do you offer returns or exchanges?

We are here to help you be sure of your order and happy to answer questions regarding the piece/s youre interested in, clay options and your choice of glaze.  We don’t want any buyers remorse!  Please be sure when placing your order as returns and exchanges due to change of mind are not available as many of the items are made specifically to order. If your item/s are broken during shipping we will replace or refund.

I want to add to my dinner set.  Can I do that?

Of course! That’s a great way to add to your collection.  Fling us an email and we can make sure any addition to your dinner set matches with your existing order.

more about Michelle

I’ve had an affinity with clay and ceramics for a very long time…it just took me 40 years to work out just how much I loved it!

Having finally found the ‘thing’ that makes my soul sing, today I create tableware and homeware pieces for people to not only use, but to enjoy, appreciate and even love - and it brings me the most joy you can imagine.

Beautiful, yet functional, Flung pieces are not designed for once-a-year use. They are practical pieces of art, becoming part of an everyday ritual you can’t live without.
