WTF IS SXSW? with Michelle Cox

WTF IS SXSW? with Michelle Cox

Having just returned from my first attendance to the incredible global conference that is South By South West (SXSW), I thought I would give a rundown of the incredible spectacle it is!

___________________

As a recent attendee of SXSW, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the energy and innovation of this epic global conference. From engaging talks by industry leaders to cutting-edge technology demonstrations - trust me when I say - there was no shortage of things to see and do. It was a bit overwhelming if I’m honest!!

In this podcast, I'll share my thoughts and experiences on the highlights of the conference, the key takeaways, and the things that made this year's SXSW stand out. I cover what SXSW is all about, why I’ve always wanted to go to it and what I hoped to get out of it.

I give insights into the following sessions I attended by this impressive line up;-

  • The incredible Esther Perel hit off with a keynote on ‘The Other A.I.: The Rise of Artificial Intimacy & What it Means for "Us"
  • Next was another incredible thinker I’ve been following for a very long time - Tim Ferriss. Tim was interviewed by Bill Gurley who is listed consistently on the Forbes Midas List and is considered one of technology’s top dealmakers. Their session was titled - ‘Turning the Tables on Tim Ferriss’ and covered so many different topics.
  • The next session was incredibly moving and a few tears were shed! It was a Keynote with Chef José Andrés: ‘The Stories We Tell Can Change the World.’ Chef and humanitarian José Andrés founded World Central Kitchen (WCK) with the simple belief that a plate of food is more than a meal—it’s hope and comfort in times of crisis.
  • I queued early for the next session as I was desperate to not miss out! Deepak Chopra is such an inspiration and the panel session called ‘Open Minds: Innovations in Consciousness, Psychedelics & Mental Health’ - which I’m sure you can imagine, was fascinating!
  • Next up was the CEO of Patagonia, Ryan Gellert who talked about how "Earth is now our only shareholder"
  • As well as Tim Ferriss’ podcast, one I listen to almost religiously every week is PIVOT with Kara Swisher & Scott Galloway. Scott wasn’t here at this event but Kara interviewed one of Instagrams founders Kevin Systrom - in true (brutal) KS style. It was fantastic!
  • Final call out I’ll do is for the session ‘Beyond Podcasting: How Ashley Flowers Redefined True Crime Storytelling’ which was really interesting.
  • There were many other sessions I went to - have a listen for the run down of more…

So, whether you're a seasoned attendee or simply curious about what happens at this renowned event, join me for an insightful and entertaining review of SXSW and my verdic on whether it’s worth attending!

As always - I’m so glad you’re here… I love bringing these conversations to you & I’m always up for wonderful suggestions if you have anyone you’d like me to interview OR a topic you’d like me to cover - make sure you hit me up! Wishing you an awesome week ahead & look forward to bringing you another exciting guest conversation next week!
