If there was one thing you think society should talk more about, what would it be?
“Using a story to get an important point across has been used by different cultures effectively for centuries. Bringing humanity to the way business people communicate is my calling. If we all communicated more authentically and connected to our audience through the power of storytelling, I believe the world would be a better place.”

The topic today is not what you’d traditionally call an ‘uncomfortable conversation’ - but my guest is so passionate about storytelling and the difference it can make in our lives, I couldn’t resist getting her on the show.
Gabrielle Dolan sure can tell you a story or two.
In fact, it was while working in a senior leadership role at National Australia Bank that she realised the power of storytelling in effective business communication. Since that epiphany, Gabrielle has found her calling as a global thought leader on authentic leadership and business storytelling.
For over 16 years Gabrielle has been talking about the power of storytelling - many years before people even believed in using storytelling in business, and she’s now considered a global expert in business storytelling and real communication. Gabrielle is a highly sought after keynote speaker and best selling author of seven books. Her client list is extensive including the likes of Visa, Amazon, EY, Uber, Accenture, Telstra, Australia Post and the Obama Foundation. The professional highlight of her career so far is meeting Barack Obama while delivering storytelling training for the Obama Foundation.
Gabrielle is the founder of Jargon Free Fridays and her dedication to the industry was recognised when she was awarded Communicator of the Year for 2020 by International Association of Business Communicators.
Gabrielle is so refreshingly down to earth and when I first saw her speak a few years back - I loved the simplicity she brought to what some feel is a complicated topic. You’ve got a speech to deliver - storytelling helps you resonate and people relate more to you. You’ve got an important message you want to get across to your staff - storytelling enables cut through. We go deep into this concept today, it’s a great conversation and I’m sure you’ll enjoy Gabrielle’s passion and interesting anecdotes in today’s episode.
